The Fools Tale by Nicole Galland (6 out of 10)

This novel concerns a small Welsh kingdom in the 12th century and the efforts of its king to keep it independent from Norman England. An arranged marriage, a childhood friendship and political intrigue combine to create romance with unexpected results. The book starts somewhat slowly but picks up for an exciting ending. The historical detail is well done. I am not sure what the author was trying to say, except possibly that personal freedom comes with high cost.
